When it comes to America’s future, the Department of Labor has decided to step up and make a bigger impact than ever before. The U.S. Department of Labor has announced a significant investment of up to $30 million to boost job training programs across America. This new wave of funding, administered through the Industry-Driven Skills Training Fund grant program, aims to tackle workforce shortages by supporting training in high-demand and emerging industries.

State Workforce Agencies are eligible for grants of up to $8 million each, with a special focus on employer-led training initiatives that not only upskill workers but also develop the talent pipelines businesses need to thrive in today’s competitive landscape.

Up to $8 Million Per Award

Grants from $3 million to $8 million are awarded to states demonstrating strong industry partnerships and effective talent development strategies. At least 90% of each grant must be used to directly reimburse employers for costs associated with training new hires or upskilling incumbent workers, while the remaining 10% supports program operations.

Additional rounds of grants may be considered if more funding becomes available. Each award supports projects for up to 45 months, allowing recipients to design, launch, and scale impactful training initiatives.

State Workforce Agencies must submit complete electronic applications by September 5, 2025, including a detailed project narrative, SF-424 form, budget and budget narrative, implementation and oversight strategies, and evidence of industry partnerships. The project narrative should outline the target industries, service area, alignment with the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) State Plan, employer outreach and eligibility criteria, and strategies for ensuring training effectiveness and accountability. 

Successful applicants enter a 60-day planning phase to finalize a comprehensive Statement of Work, including specific performance targets, staffing plans, and partnership agreements, before receiving grant funding.
